John & Linda ShortreidJohn is a graduate Technologist (two Technologist Diplomas) from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and registered as an Applied Science Technologist (Geomatics) with the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) - John is also a commissioned Canada Lands Surveyor and had a successful professional career spanning over 37 years in the Geomatics Industry, including as CEO and President of his own mapping firm for 23 years.

John retired in March 2012 after 6 years as ASTTBC's Registrar in which he was responsible for the Registrations Department and Practice Review for the Association's approximately 10,000 members. During his 45 plus years as a member of ASTTBC, he served as a volunteer - 2 years as President, 10 years on Council, chaired most Boards and 8 years as Chairman for ASTTBC's Foundation. John has been awarded several service awards including the R.E. Littledale Memorial Award and the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists' National Achievement Award. John is currently a sitting member of the Practice Review Board and a Reviewer for Geomatics files for the Board of Examiners.

Since retirement John has taken a position as President of the Fraser Valley & Pacific Railway (FV&PR). This 'G' Gauge Garden Railway is located in Langley, British Columbia. John also volunteers time as Vice President of Greater Vancouver Garden Railway Club ( and Editor for its newsletter, the 'Burnt Journal'.

Linda is a retired elementary school principal, after working for 37 years as a teacher and school administrator for the Surrey School District of British Columbia. Linda enjoys travel, walks with the dog, her crafting hobbies and meeting colleagues and friends for tea.

John and Linda are enjoying life as grandparents and owners of a yellow lab named Lucy.
